Astronauts in the Jungle explores conceptual intersections between habitat dioramas, space travel, and shamanic ritual.
I develop these connections through the lens of Amerindian perspectivism, as defined by the anthropologist Eduardo Viveiros de Castro where the human “is the point of view of reference, meaning that each animal, each species, each subject that comes to occupy the point of view of reference will regard themselves as human.”As Amerindian perspectivism challenges the classical distinction between nature and culture, my essay tries to envision a way of seeing this distinction not as a hierarchy but as a threshold of mutual entanglement.
